ARLES | NEW DISCOVERY AWARD

Christto & Andrew have been selected as shortlisted for New Discovery Award, promoted by the International festival Les Rencontres de la Photographie d'Arles. For the occasion they will show a premiere body of works in a personal exhibition in the spaces of Ground Control in the city of Arles, a former industrial hangar turned into an exhibition space, from 2 July to 23 September 2018

In Encrypted Purgatory, that's the title of the newest series, Christto & Andrew present us with various scenes that reveal a nostalgia for the mediatic image of an allegorical future. Exploring the idea of reality, time and its construction through fiction, built by the impulse of the show and its illusion. As if the past and the present had collapsed, in their images there is a duality between the primitive and the new technologies of the digital age that question objective reality. The work of Christto & Andrew poetically evokes a concern for ideas of the future, ideas of uniqueness and new technologies.

Among the ten shortlisted artists, during the opening week of the Festival, an International committee will assign the New Discovery Award. In addition, the People's Choice Award will be assigned after a public vote.

Since its creation, the Rencontres d'Arles has promoted photography and all its stakeholders, from photographers themselves to exhibition curators and publishers. In that spirit of openness, the Rencontres d'Arles has teamed up with galleries for the New Discovery Award.
