NICOLETA MURES | DOOM SCROLLING AND WEB MEDITATION

Doom Scrolling and Web Meditation (2024) by Nicoleta Mureș represent the last video within the program Pattern, the edition of Digital Video Wall (DVW), an annual project curated by Gemma Fantacci and structured in thematic chapters, aimed at promoting the dissemination and experimentation of digital art.

Doom Scrolling, as also Web Meditation, encapsulates the relentless pursuit of digital consumption amidst a sea of options, as a virtual doorway, it reflects humanity’s yearning for immediacy and serendipity. Its simple invitation carries weight: the willingness to cede control, trust algorithms, and embrace the possibility of unexpected discovery with a single click. As users, we find ourselves endlessly scrolling through feeds, clicking from one link to the next, seeking out the latest updates and trends. Yet, in this relentless pursuit, we often lose sight of our original intentions and priorities. The sheer volume of content available overwhelms our senses, leading to a state of digital inertia where we consume passively, without meaningful engagement or critical reflection. Our consumption becomes driven by algorithms and recommendation systems, dictating what content we see and reinforcing echo chambers of thought. In this endless cycle of consumption, the illusion of choice dissipates, and we surrender control to the algorithms that govern our digital existence.

Nicoleta Mureș (b.1996) is a Romanian artist based in Madrid, working with digital collages, video, animation, 3D, AR and generative AI. Her practice is a continuous observation of the virtual body under different stress related situations, anxieties, fear. Her goal is to further investigate the possibilities and limitations that put the flesh, be it real or digital in the spotlight.
Her visuals predict a dystopian future, where people have to deal with unreal emotions, isolation, disembodiment while being influenced by the way in which technology fuels humanity’s desire to consume. Her projects reflect on how the Internet distorts life and the profound changes that affect humankind. The lack of reactions from reality is what made her think that we are heading towards a “numbness” of senses and personality.

ROXI BASA| ANATOMIES OF THE FUTURE

Anatomies of the Future (2025) by Roxi Basa is the video presented as part of Pattern, the edition of Digital Video Wall (DVW)—an annual project curated by Gemma Fantacci, structured in thematic chapters and dedicated to promoting the dissemination and experimentation of digital art. Anatomies of the Future is a speculative exploration of post-human evolution, where the boundaries between biology, technology, and identity dissolve into a new, interconnected existence. Inspired by the hypnotic nature of siphonophores, this project envisions the next stage of human augmentation, where our bodies become modular, fluid, and capable of biocommunicating through light. This immersive video work pays tribute to the beauty of marine symbiosis and transhumanist possibilities, portraying a future in which humans adapt, merge, and evolve beyond individuality.

Roxi Basa is a 3D artist with a background in fashion photography in Paris, currently based in Amsterdam. Her work blends experimental fantasy with bold, unique storytelling, exploring a new visual language. Ethereal, dreamlike, and mystical, her style invites viewers to immerse themselves in alternative realities, where magical and visionary narratives evoke profound emotional responses. Through new technologies, she creates immersive environments that act as portals to unexplored worlds, inviting the audience into a fully sensorial experience. Deeply inspired by nature, innovation, mystery, and the unconventional, Roxi Basa draws from both the visible and the intangible to shape narratives that encourage the exploration of the unknown. At the heart of her practice is the creation of worlds, with each project unfolding as a narrative odyssey, meticulously designed to resonate deeply with those who encounter it.

JOAQUINA SALGADO | AVISPISH

Avispish (2022) by Joaquina Salgado is the video presented as part of Pattern, the  edition of Digital Video Wall (DVW), an annual project curated by Gemma Fantacci and structured in thematic chapters to promote the dissemination and experimentation of digital art. Avispish is an immersive work that explores the concept of fluid identity and the intersection between the digital body and sensory perception. Created by Joaquina Salgado, the piece unfolds through real-time generated synthetic environments, populated by hybrid entities oscillating between the virtual and the organic. The work is conceived as a continuously evolving audiovisual experience, where luminous textures and iridescent materials evoke a sense of otherness and simultaneous familiarity. Through the use of emerging technologies—such as game engines and interactive environments—Avispish investigates the possibilities of self-construction in the digital realm, offering a reflection on the fusion between physical bodies and synthetic alter egos.
The video is structured into four quadrants, each occupied by an alien-featured individual, engaged in a silent dialogue of observation and listening. Firmly rooted in her interest in experimenting between physical and virtual worlds, Avispish represents an extension of the artist’s ongoing research into self-perception in the age of real-time imagery. The piece invites viewers to immerse themselves in a universe where corporeality dissolves and recomposes continuously, reflecting on the growing interplay between our physical presence and our digital projection.

Joaquina Salgado, originally from Argentina, is a digital artist who combines emerging technologies to create XR experiences, interactive virtual spaces, and audiovisual performances. Her explorations between the physical and dreamlike worlds converge in the creation of synthetic environments through real-time technology, digital sculpture, and photogrammetry, aiming to reflect on human nature, inner programming, and our evolving relationship with machines as interactive mirrors.

HARRIET DAVEY | 3D ANIMATION SHOWREEL

3D Animation Showreel (2023-2024) by Harriet Davey is the video presented within the program Pattern, the edition of Digital Video Wall (DVW), an annual project curated by Gemma Fantacci and structured in thematic chapters, aimed at promoting the dissemination and experimentation of digital art.

Harriet Davey is a 3D Artist and Art Director based in Berlin. Through the exploration of gender non-conforming virtual avatars, Davey restores and reclaims the bodies extorted by a male dominated gaming industry. Obsessed with questioning what it means to be fluid and human in a digital world, their work examines and interrogates the ugly and the beautiful; the maximum and the minimum; the online and the offline.

From the wilds of the Yorkshire moorlands, and now based in Berlin, Davey is an established 3D artist whose work researches the dynamics of avatars, bodies, and the fluidity of identity across both physical and digital domains. Through the personal exploration of their own avatar ‘Whowle’ Davey is able to directly probe their personal self expression and gender identity in a form of digital ‘drag’. Creating worlds and alternate universes for Whowle and the rest of their cast of creatures provides an escape for Davey and their viewers.
Their work utilizes short films, animations, stills, and more recently live performances and game engine installations to draw viewers into a fantastical and ethereal escape. Desolate and barren, yet surprisingly fertile, landscapes that extract from the vistas of the moorlands they grew up in set the range of scenes for a diverse cast of virtual humans and non-humans. Creatures that crawl through these worlds with a knowing look in their eye, and hyper realistic movements, somehow evoke feelings of not just unease, but tranquility too.

CARRIE CHEN | TEMPORAL PORTRAIT

Temporal Portrait 时间肖像 (2023) by Carrie Chen is showcased within the Pattern program, part of the Digital Video Wall (DVW) edition—an annual project curated by Gemma Fantacci, structured around thematic chapters to promote experimentation and dissemination in digital art. Simultaneously a group portrait and a self-portrait, *Temporal Portrait* envisions a moment where transgenerational versions of the artist’s 3D identities converge within a single spatiotemporal realm. Through a creative process that blends family archives, artificial intelligence, digital avatars, and motion capture technology, Carrie Chen interprets her aged versions via avatars existing across different timelines. These AI-generated results are then synthesized with childhood family photographs and archival images of her mother, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers to craft the final portraits. These images serve as the foundation for designing personalized avatars using 3D software. Motion capture technology was employed to interpret each figure’s movements, while facial motion capture enabled the simulation of subtle expressions, bringing each avatar to life. Projected in full scale and looped infinitely, the 24 figures of the 3D simulation reflect non-linear concepts of time and explore the artist’s existence as a Chinese-American woman—celebrating resilience and life. The group portrait condenses themes of tradition, lineage, age, and beauty into a monumental installation that roots itself in the past while projecting toward the future.

Carrie Chen is an artist, creative director, independent curator, and educator based in Los Angeles. Her practice spans CGI animation, real-time interactivity, game engine simulation, and installation art, exploring themes such as hybridity, representation, time, and memory. Splitting her time between the United States and China, her work draws inspiration from non-Western ontologies, deconstructing and reconfiguring her relationship with intercultural narratives. With a transdisciplinary approach, she is interested in what she terms the “productive Unheimlich,” engaging with the complexities of social behavior, digital bodies, culture, and technology.
