Drawing inspiration from René Guénon’s The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times, the exhibition reflects on the growing dominance of quantitative logic over the qualitative dimension of human existence. Featuring works by artists active from the second half of the twentieth century to the early twenty-first century, the exhibition explores the relationship between image, language, and reality through practices that fragment, reconstruct, and reinterpret the present. From Nanni Balestrini’s experiments with visual poetry to Pino Pascali’s research, and the works of Gianluigi Colin, the Kings collective, and Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, art emerges as a critical tool and a form of resistance. Balancing creative chaos with a search for the absolute, the exhibition invites viewers to look beyond measurable data and rediscover the complexity of human experience.
Nanni Balestrini (Milan, 1935 – Rome, 2019) was a poet, novelist, visual artist, and playwright of the Italian Neo-Avant-Garde. Experimenting with the connections between words, texts, and images, he dedicated his life to dismantling and reconfiguring traditional languages.
Gianluigi Colin (Pordenone, 1956) is an artist, journalist, critic, and currently the cover editor of La Lettura, the cultural supplement of Corriere della Sera, where he also writes about art, photography, and visual communication.
María Magdalena Campos-Pons (Matanzas, Cuba, 1959) is a Cuban-born visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans photography, video, installation, performance, and drawing. Her work explores themes of memory, identity, migration, and cultural heritage.
KINGS is an artistic duo composed of Federica Perazzoli (b. 1966, Switzerland) and Daniele Innamorato (b. 1969, Milan, Italy). Their practice spans installation, sculpture, and new media, exploring the relationship between technology, nature, and the contemporary imagination.
Pino Pascali (Bari, 1935 – Rome, 1968) worked as a graphic designer and assistant set designer for television advertising, experimenting with innovative techniques and visual languages.
