TALK
MATTEO NUCCI – writer
GIACOMO MERCURIALI – artist
Moderated by MARCELLA MANNI – founder and director of METRONOM
How can a life be narrated in the digital age? And what changes when artificial intelligence enters the picture alongside the human gaze?
As part of the programme of Smart Life Festival 2026, the talk brings together writer Matteo Nucci, finalist for the 2026 Strega Prize with Platone. Una storia d’amore, and artist Giacomo Mercuriali to explore the different ways in which a life can be reconstructed and conveyed through storytelling.
A biographical narrative can take the form of a novel, an image, an archive, a social media profile, and today, even a computational aggregation of data. Traditional sources — letters, photographs, documents — are joined by emails, messages, videos, posts, playlists, geolocation data, and the countless traces we leave behind in digital environments.
Writers and artists can therefore draw on a partially shared body of sources, choosing which traces to consider meaningful and how to transform them into narratives. But what happens when a non-human intelligence contributes to selecting and interpreting these resources? And what new forms might auto-bio-narration take in the age of algorithms?
The talk will be moderated by Marcella Manni, founder and director of METRONOM.
