UNCANNY VALLEY | DIGITAL VIDEO WALL #3

Uncanny Valley (2020) is the fifth video presented by the artist Stacie Ant within the program FILTRO, the third edition of DIGITAL VIDEO WALL, an annual project structured in thematic chapters, aimed at promoting the dissemination and experimentation of digital art.

Uncanny Valley was originally commisioned by the musician Mr Eff as music video but then the project developed with the intention to represent a socio-digital condition not as absurd and distant as it seems to be. The protagonists, sad in their monotony and squalor, connect to an exoskeleton equipped with a VR viewer and log into a virtual world where they can be anyone and take on the appearance they want. In the exaggeration of plastic perfection, characters can live the life of their dreams and play te best version of themselves, at least until they disconnect from the VR set. Stacie Ant's works are often characterized by a dark humor with which the artist criticizes the male-gaze and the contemporary patriarchal system towards the female body with the aim of emancipating female identity and sexuality.

FILTRO is the theme chosen by Gemma Fantacci to present a series of works linked by keywords such as avatar, identity, body, digital vs analogue, IRL vs. virtual worlds. FILTRO is conceived in its twofold meaning of device that allows the execution of modifications, real or virtual, to an object or body, also real or digital, and finally of lens, or screen, through wichi we experience an altered version of reality and of the media landscape that surrounds us.

With DIGITAL VIDEO WALL Metronom offers a place dedicated to the display and presentation of languages of digital art. The peculiar position of the video wall, which allows 24-hour use from the street front, transforms the DVW into an urban intervention, a way to redesign and change the image of the street.
